The Myth of Loose Vagina

Like the Lochness monster, our vaginas have also been a subject of many myths and misconceptions over centuries. Every woman has asked one of these questions at least once in her lifetime:

  • Is my vagina getting loose because of sex?

  • Will a lot of sex make my vagina loose?

  • Will too many sexual partners make my vagina loose?

I will answer all these questions in one word. No. Sex or sexual partners do not and cannot make your vagina loose.

Firstly, vaginas are very elastic, so they can stretch and contract like a rubber band and return to their original shape after penetration. Therefore, despite popular belief, sex has no long-term effect on vaginal tension. However, if you do feel like your vagina has become loose, it is definitely not because of sex, but there can be other reasons.

How can the vagina become loose?

The following are a few of the most common reasons for vaginal laxity:

Natural childbirth: During a normal delivery, the muscles surrounding the vaginal area are subjected to a great deal of trauma, weakening them. As a result, it loosens up. Loss of

Estrogen: A decrease in estrogen levels, whether due to age or health conditions, causes the vaginal tissue to become thinner, dryer, and less elastic.

Weak pelvic floor muscles: The pelvic floor muscles encircle the vaginal opening. These can deteriorate due to childbirth and aging, resulting in loose vagina.

Problems like Incontinence, or the leakage of urine from the body, can be caused by all three factors.

Treatment

You can regain strength in your pelvic floor muscles with certain exercises. For example, exercises like Kegels can help with the way your vagina feels and enhance your overall health. Also, Incontinence and organ prolapse can both be prevented by having strong pelvic floor muscles. Here are some ways that can help you restore your pelvic strength.

  1. Kegel exercises-

Kegel exercises are the most effective way of improving vaginal elasticity as well as urine control. These are basic clench-and-release exercises

1. Find the correct muscles: Try to stop the flow of pee while urinating. The muscles you use are those of the pelvic floor. However, practicing Kegels while peeing on a daily basis can be detrimental to bladder health.

2. Pick a time: Find a quiet place where you can relax and focus on gently squeezing the pelvic floor muscles.

3. Hold: Squeeze and hold the position after contracting these muscles feel normal. Strive to hold the squeeze for 10 seconds at a time.

4. Extend the muscles for 3 seconds before releasing them.

5. Progress: Work your way up to doing this exercise 10 times in a row.

According to the most recent study, laser tightening treatments are now the most effective non-invasive treatment for vaginal laxity, especially for women who desire to have more children in the future.

A laser speculum is inserted into the vaginal canal, and the laser is subsequently introduced through the speculum and releases heat radiation, penetrating the vaginal tissue's outer layer to the deeper layers. The heat induces a healing reaction in the vaginal tissue, causing it to create more collagen. The new collagen tightens the skin and boosts your vagina’s ability to lubricate naturally.

3. Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty is a type of surgery that tightens the vaginal wall. It can be used to reverse mild laxity that develops in women who have given birth vaginally and older women to variable degrees. It is also used to treat congenital vaginal defects as well as acquired deformities caused by cancer, tumors, or trauma and to treat other pelvic floor weaknesses, such as vaginal prolapse.
